Southern Obesity Summit

We invite you to join us for the 4th Annual Southern Obesity Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, taking place from September 12-14. This innovative conference will focus on childhood and adult obesity prevention in the southern United States, the most obese region in the nation. Teams from 16 southern states, comprising more than 300 participants will convene to promote cross-sector collaboration and partnerships to prevent obesity, share successful policy and community-based intervention strategies, and connect with peer practitioners and leaders to promote, coordinate, and sustain innovative obesity prevention activities. 2010 Leadership Symposium

Leadership Symposium

One of HealthSTAT’s signature events, the annual Leadership Symposium, brings together students from across disciplines and across the state to wrestle with Georgia’s biggest public health and healthcare challenges. Each fall, the symposium offers students the opportunity to learn from and network with experts and leaders in health. Students then spend a substantial amount of time brainstorming and working with their peers to develop ways that students can address these issues in Georgia.

Health reform emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration more than ever before. Join us as we explore how the new law will affect how professionals from all fields work together to create a healthier Georgia.

Public Health Commission Meeting

The Public Health Commission was created July 1, 2010 pursuant to O.C.G.A. 31-2-20.  Its purpose is to determine whether the interests of the state of Georgia are best served with the Division of Public Health being a part of the Department of Community Health, an attached agency, an independent agency, or as part of another organizational structure to be determined by the Commission. 

 

The Commission shall make its recommendation by December 1, 2010, and welcomes the public comments from the citizens of Georgia at its October 18th meeting. Submit your comments via email tokaberkeley@dhr.state.ga.us, or mailed hard copy to Ms. Karesha Berkely Laing, 2 Peachtree Street N.W, Suite 15-248, Atlanta, Georgia 30303.  Requests to address the Commission should be sent tokaberkeley@dhr.state.ga.us.  Thank you for your interest in Georgia’s public health.
