Steppin’ for Health

Four years ago, two students grew tired of waiting on public policy to catch up with Georgia's obesity epidemic. They sat down and created our Steppin' for Health curriculum, an eight-week nutrition and physical education program for elementary school children. The program adheres to Georgia public schools' wellness policy and can be taught in the classroom or during after school programs. Once a week, for eight weeks, trained student volunteers teach kids the importance of eating right, nutrition, and exercise. Our interactive lessons culminate in a Greek-style step show and nutrition chant, performed for parents and community members.

Currently, we are looking for an additional Childhood Obesity Prevention Initiative Leader to help coordinate the Steppin' for Health Program for Fall 2010. In addition, we regularly need four to five volunteers each week to help lead our lessons. If you are interested in the COPI Leader position or volunteering, email michelle@healthstatgeorgia.org.
